The Coppa Milano-Sanremo is the oldest car race in Italy, and its historic revival has become a fixed spring date for regularity crews. The 2027 dates have not yet been announced. The 17th revival ran from 26 to 29 March 2026, so a spring 2027 date is expected, to be confirmed by the organisers.
The original race was conceived by Camillo Costamagna, then director of the newly founded Gazzetta dello Sport. On 4 April 1906 fourteen gentlemen drivers gathered in Via Marina in Milan, outside the Automobile Club Milano, to drive 310 km to Sanremo via Acqui Terme. The Coppa became a spring tradition until 1939, was revived in 1949, and after a pause of about thirty years returned in 2003 as a historic revival for vintage cars.
The 2026 edition celebrated the 120th anniversary by returning to the original Milan, Acqui Terme and Sanremo axis, through Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria. It started on Thursday 26 March at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, which hosted scrutineering and the first special tests, including on the high-speed banking. Ahead of the start the organisers announced about 90 crews, around 20 of them from abroad including one from Japan, while ACI Sport's start-day report put the field at 72 crews, and the modern route runs to more than 700 km of competition. The Coppa delle Dame for women's crews remains part of the tradition, and in 2026 the closing celebrations were held at the historic Ospedaletti circuit.
Andrea Vesco and Romano Bacci won the 2026 revival in a 1935 Fiat 508 S, ahead of Gianmario Fontanella and Giovanni Scarabelli in a 1930 Fiat 514 S, with Francesco and Giuseppe Di Pietra third in a 1938 Fiat 508 C.
The revival is promoted by Equipe Grand Prix with the Automobile Club Milano, which supports it and, through ACI Sport, gives it competitive status within the Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi.
First run on 4 April 1906 from Milan to Sanremo via Acqui Terme, the Coppa was held until 1939, revived in 1949, and reborn in 2003 as a historic revival. The 17th revival in 2026 marked its 120th anniversary.
