The Vintage Sports-Car Club's Cotswold Trial returns on Saturday 24 October 2026, based at Prescott Speed Hill Climb near Cheltenham. Listings describe it as the penultimate trial on the club's 2026 calendar, and the organisers promise plenty of sludgy challenges as autumn takes hold.
A VSCC trial is a test of grip, momentum and nerve rather than outright speed. Each section is a steep, slippery climb marked from 1 at the bottom to 25 at the top, and crews score points for the last marker they pass. Scores from all sections are added together and the highest total wins. Passengers, known as bouncers, help find traction on the trickiest ground.
Since 2023 the established trialists have had Saturday to themselves, with novices running their own event on the Sunday. At the 2023 event the Prescott hills opened at midday and the car park from 11:00, spectators were encouraged to buy a programme, and the clubhouse served food and drink. Timings for 2026 had not been published at the time of writing.
In November 2022 Simon Price scored a clean sheet to take the Harold Powell Plate for overall victory at the Prescott-based Cotswold Trial.
Base: Prescott Speed Hill Climb, Gotherington, Cheltenham GL52 9RD. 2026 spectator timings not yet published (in 2023 the hills opened at 12:00 and parking at 11:00). Drivers must be VSCC members, passengers need not be. Check the VSCC event page before travelling.
Pre-war trials fans, VSCC members and anyone curious about grass-roots vintage motorsport.
